Breed specific legislation is regulation of your right to own or not own a dog, based solely on the breed or "type" of dog. These laws declare an entire breed "dangerous or vicious" based on the actions of a few members. Breed specific laws are often a knee-jerk reaction from politicians who want to say they are "doing something" to stop dog bite incidences and fatalities after a highly publicized dog attack. Unfortunatley Breed specific laws have proven not to be effective in the reduction of dog bite incidents. Where dog biting incidents are concerned, every breed of dog is involved. There is no such thing as a breed of dog that won't bite.
The
threat of Breed Specific Legislation (BSL)
making its way back to NJ!Senator
Sharpe James has yet again introduced his
Responsible
Pit Bull Ownership Licensing Act (S1718).
S1718 is nearly identical to a bill sponsored
by Senator James in 2003, which died in
committee following strong opposition to
its companion bill-Assemblyman Burzichelli's
A2906. We must rally again to stop this
bill! click

this bill>>
THINK IT'S NOT YOUR
PROBLEM NJ? Dont think your breed
wont be affected! First the bill singled
out piit bulls and "pit bull type dogs".
Next they included Rottweilers, then they
took them out, but then they talked about
the Dobermans and the German Shepherds being
included too. Once legislation of this manner
is passed, it leaves the door open to include
any breed they choose. Dont wait until
its too late and your breed is on the list!
